The Renaissance Preschool is the perfect place to begin your child's first school experience! It's a warm and caring environment that welcomes everyone, providing just the right amount of structure to help children become part of a group and develop a love of learning!

Our History...

Renaissance Preschool was created as a result of the UMass Early Childhood Laboratory School closing in 2004. Parents of the children attending the Lab School encouraged the Director to find an alternate space to continue serving families with young children in the Amherst area. The name "Renaissance" was chosen to highlight the "rebirth" of the Laboratory School in a new location. The Renaissance Preschool continues to enjoy the reputation for providing exemplary care and education of both children and adults.

Convenient Location...

We're located on the northern edge of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst campus, in the lower level of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Our preschool is on the PVTA bus line and is within walking distance of the UMASS campus. This convenient location enables the staff to take advantage of all the University and surrounding Amherst community have to offer.

Enriching experiences...

Whether it's taking a field trip to a campus science lab or inviting a special guest to visit our classroom, the University provides numerous opportunities and resources to enrich our curriculum. Our preschool has attended children's performances at the Fine Arts Center, visited the Du Bois Library, the campus Recycling Facility, Entomology Lab, and Durfee Conservatory. We have also enjoyed field trips to the Amherst Fire Department and Amherst Veterinary Clinic, and have visited the Planetarium and Museum of Natural History on the campus of Amherst College.

"We have had such a positive experience at the Renaissance School. Our son can't wait to attend each morning and never wants to leave. It's a warm, loving, creative, interesting, playful atmosphere. The director stays very connected to both the parents and students, has a high level of professionalism, and utilizes many local resources (like University students and events) to make the program even richer. It's truly a special place."

Easy Enrollment...

We invite interested families to contact us by telephone or send an email to the Director to arrange for a tour of our program. When a family decides to enroll their child, we ask that a completed application, along with a non-refundable deposit of $100.00, be submitted to the school office. The office will provide the family an enrollment packet which contains several forms to be returned on the first day the child begins preschool.
